THE ROLE OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES

Abstract: This study aimed to explore the role of information systems in decision-making processes within organizations. The objectives were to examine how information systems facilitate timely and accurate decision-making, enhance strategic planning capabilities, and improve organizational responsiveness. A survey research design was selected for its ability to gather quantitative data from a broad spectrum of organizational stakeholders. Using the Taro Yamane formula, a sample size of 250 respondents was determined, ensuring sufficient representation across various departments and hierarchical levels. The study focused on a case study of a financial services firm, chosen for its reliance on real-time data for investment decisions and risk management. Conducted in Abuja, the reliability coefficient score was determined to be 0.87, indicating strong internal consistency among survey measures. The findings underscored that effective information systems integration significantly enhances decision-making quality, reduces decision-making timeframes, and improves organizational agility. The study recommends that organizations prioritize investments in advanced information systems, integrate data analytics capabilities, and provide ongoing training to personnel to optimize decision-making processes and achieve competitive advantages in dynamic business environments.
